Places to eat out
The Burgundy region is the true culinary heartland of France. The greatest wines are grown here and some of the greatest chefs are in Burgundy. In our region you can eat at one of the (very expensive) three star restaurants or at one of the many excellent (and moderately priced) restaurants or at our (extraordinarily cheap!) nearby routier. It’s as well to book ahead, especially if you want to eat out on a Friday or Saturday.

Simple fare
Auberge La Beursaudière

Lots of regional specialities and good desserts. The décor is fun – old farm implements and other artefacts used decoratively. A good place to eat al fresco in fine weather. If you’re here at Christmas they have a nativity scene in the courtyard featuring a real cow, donkey and sheep.
Chez Dame Jeanne.
59 Grande Rue
Avallon

A very pleasant salon de thé, which also offers light lunches. It’s in a beautiful Avallon town house with stone fireplaces, beams and tommettes.
Sarl la Barrière
La Cerce
Sauvigny le Bois

A routier. Open from 4.30 – 0.00 Mon - Thurs and 4.30am – 22.30 on Friday. Closed weekends. At Sauvigny le Bois you take the D105 as far as the railway line where you will see a lorry park and the routier on the left.
